Do You Have What it Takes to Become a Rainmaker?
A rainmaker is someone who seems to magically bring in sales to their company no matter what the circumstances are. If the economy is tough, they still seem to shine through. What is it about these people that is so different? Do you possess the qualities to become a rainmaker?
It takes time and effort to develop your skills to be viewed as a rainmaker in your company. When you attain this level you have normally climbed the ladder and hold a good position.
The key to achieving this position is in developing certain skills. These include developing your listening skills. Most people love to talk and tell you their problems so all you have to do is to take notes and then create a solution.
In order to get your potential customers and clients to open up to you, it is important to ask the right questions. You need to ask questions that require more than a “yes” or “no” answer.
By asking probing questions, your prospect has no choice but to go into detail about what they are looking for. Probing questions normally begin with the words how, who, when and why.
Learn to come up with a variety of questions that you can easily apply to different situations. Then once you have asked them it is just a matter of sitting back and taking notes.
Once your note taking is complete, you clarify your client’s needs, wants and desires and then offer a solution. Your solution does not always have to be immediate. But if you can leave your sales meeting with promises of delivering a proposal in the next few days, your client will be waiting eagerly to hear back from you.
A great rainmaker will learn how to solve problems for customers by showing rather than telling. This is why it is important to have a great understanding of the products and/or services that your company has to offer.
If you have taken the time to learn how to use them you will be aware of any potential issues. When and if these issues arise you can easily solve them for your client. Again, this is a huge plus in the eyes of your client.
So if you truly have the ambition to become a rainmaker then develop those two basic skills of learning how to ask the right questions and then listening.
